Northern California is one of those places that sometimes makes you feel like the luckiest person on the planet. A few hours drive in any direction and you can be in the redwoods or in the desert, surfing or snowboarding, on a warm beach or a cold one.
Chilly beaches and bluffs are what you’ll find in Mendocino, an idyllic town about three and a half hours north of the Bay Area. You can take Route 1 or 128. Either way, it’s not an easy drive. And that fact is probably what has kept Mendocino quaint. It’s a lovely place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and contemplate a life slowed down.
